Knowing that she likes to hear of Poppy and me doing things while she works (instead of just sitting at home)–seriously!–we ventured out to nearby Joyner Park where the wonderful Town of Wake Forest was offering one more in its series of summer Sunday concerts. This particular Sunday’s concert featured bluegrass group The Rye Mountain Boys. For most of the show Poppy sat in her new umbrella stroller. The concert started just before she woke up from her afternoon nap, so I packed up Poppy’s lunch and we set up camp on the grass to eat, sunbathe and take in the guitar and fiddle music. We had a great time and Poppy, as she often does, quickly made friends.

For Poppy’s first Fourth of July we decided to go exploring with our new little, week-old gal. During the beautiful 90F heat we headed out to Falls Lake, only about a 15 minute drive from Wake Forest. Swimmers and beach bums flooded the beach as the day went on. Only 10 or so minutes into our own beach lounging our umbrella got gangled by the wind. We then moved under some shade trees to relax for the rest of the afternoon where we napped, took photos, and entertained Poppy as much as she would let us.

About the time we got hungry we headed home to search the cupboards. We were home only long enough to get geared up to set out on the next leg of our Fourth of July journey: The North Carolina Symphony’s free Independence Day concert at the outdoor Booth Amphitheater in Cary (about a 40 min drive west of where we live). We saw online that this concert year after year is acclaimed the best free thing in the area to do on the Fourth. Even better, as the last note of the symphony was sounding, the fireworks began! Check out the two videos below. All in all it was a tiring but exciting day of exploring new things we our new Poppy.<span

I was told the other evening that I haven’t gained any sympathy weight either. These are good signs. This is what we want to hear!

We’re both on our feet quite a lot: Emily at school and clinicals (running around the hospital) and me at work serving people tea. Also, now that it’s summer, Wake Forest has concerts in the park which is probably less than a mile from our apartment. We walked to the park last week to catch the local high school’s jazz band but we’re a little too late. They’d gone! This Sunday we left earlier and walked to the park in time this time to find a sign saying the concert had been moved for fear of rain. The concert, featuring a zydeco band, was now at a different park about another half mile from this one, further on away from our place. We made it in time and enjoyed a couple of songs and then headed back.

What I really wanted to tell you though was that today Emily’s been cleaning out the cupboards and by that I do mean cleaning them out by organizing and cleaning them out by eating. She was pretty tickled to find a chocolate bar (Hershey’s dark) hidden in the back of one of the cabinets. This was before the walk to the park(s). Who but a pregnant woman would take a chocolate bar with her on a walk, munching (and sharing a piece here and there) as we walk?!

Hadwynn

Drew and Emily

Video

concert

Friends

music

Town
<guid
