We are blessed to have numerous friends who are pastors and not just pastors but solid preachers who consistently deliver clear teaching from Scripture. Their sermons have played an increasingly edifying role in our lives since moving to France as we’re able to listen in via podcast. (A podcast is simply the regular, automatic delivery of an audio file, in this case MP3′s of sermons.) While we attend a great church here, we still desire–like those to whom we’re preparing to minister in Cameroon–to hear God’s word preached in our own language, which will continue to be the language we understand best.

Just today I was listening and Emily said, “wow, this is so good for keeping up with our friends.” So, I thought I’d better blog and share the goodness. Here’s a list of the podcasts to which we subscribe and listen regularly. Check these out and leave your suggestions in the comments for others we should check out.

The mix progression centers on avoiding key clashes, a new skill I’m trying to pick up. So, those who are super sensitive to keys and key clashes, please, if you hear dodgey keys mixing together, let me know so I can improve. Most likely nothing, unless you are the official announcer, aka Emma Clarke. You may have heard that today she was relieved of her duties for criticizing the London Underground. An Underground spokesman had this to say, "Some of the spoof announcements are very funny. But Emma is a bit silly to go round slagging off her client's services." Read more of the story here.

 

I was only able to download one of the spoof announcements before her site (EmmaClarke.com) went down from the rush of traffic; but now have the rest of them. You can download the Emma Clarke spoof announcement (MP3), "We'd like to remind our American tourist friends that you are almost certainly talking too loud" right here. To stream other of the spoofs, look to the right. Now I know to keep it down on the Tube; wouldn't want to out-noise the drunks!

We've been attending a Spanish-speaking Sunday School class on Sunday mornings. Emily's joined the choir and we are helping with a youth retreat this weekend. Check out the church website. Though it's a bit dated, you can download this Sunday's sermon and hear what we heard. And if you do so, you will hear in the sermon today that Pastor Andy referenced the British Empire. And I, for one, learned a new British anthem that I hadn't heard before: Rule, Britannia!

Emily was able to recite the chorus of the anthem as the pastor read it. Once we got home, I snooped around on the Internet to see what all I could learn and find out about this glorious maritime hymn. Below is an mp3 of the 1994 BBC recording of the song at Last Night of the Proms, something British that was new to me today as well.
