“Haven’t you ever seen a watering can before!?” I heard as a crouched to take the picture you see below. Walking away I asked myself, “Why did I stop to take such a mundane picture?” (I like to use big words like “mundane” when I talk to myself.) It is just a watering can after all. The reason I came up with was that it’s not that I’ve never seen a watering can before; I’ve just never seen a watering can in this way before. And as you may remember from my photography tips post, much of photography is caught up in simply noticing. Anyways, now that that’s out of the way, on to part three of my series on our recent trip to England–no more watering can pics, I promise.
Fish & Chips
After family and friends, one of the must-see things in England for us is good food in our mouths. With so much good stuff to choose from (never mind the stereotype of bland British food), we always still opt for the classic Fish and Chips: a huge piece of breaded cod deep fried to perfection, bundled with a generous helping of French fries, and then wrapped up with Christmas-like care in a paper blanket of culinary class. Yum! Here’s Grandad introducing his hungry hungry Henry to the delights of artery-clogging fruits of the sea. God bless you, Grandad…and help Henry defend himself against that hungry hungry lion whose eyeing his goodies.
Walk it Out
You can’t just sit around and eat fish and chips all the time though or…or…or….yeh, you’ll probably have a heart attack. Being heart-conscious we headed out for a walk in the forest to work off the grease we ingested for lunch. We ended up ascending the highest point in the town from where we had a nice view over sprawling London. Even before all this though Poppy just had to have a quick cuddle with our darling Olivia.
Thanksgiving
Now this is where this Saturday really took a turn for the amazing. Later in the afternoon we headed over to the Seaman’s house for what we had been forewarned would be an early Thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving at the beginning of November rather than at the end? A huge meal with family and friends? Yes and please!
What we found waiting for us at our gracious host’s home was nothing short of full-on fanfare. They didn’t hold back: American flags, pumpkin pie, paper turkey, real turkey, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole…and I could goon but it would only make me hungry! What a treat.
What get together is complete without toys and tickles?
…and fire!
Is it love?
Thank you Seaman family for the wonderful Thanksgiving dinner! We are grateful for your friendship throughout the years and look forward to the next time we can sit in your living room chatting and having a good time. We love you!
