When Emily and I were first married, I promised my new wife that I would always make sure that she could return to England for a visit any time she liked. Anytime–feeling homesick, important family event, or simply wanting to be back in a familiar place–whatever the reason, I would make sure she could go. For a twenty year-old college student with a laughable job that was quite the promise. But then again, my wife was–and is–quite the lady.
In our seven years of marriage, I’ve been able to hold true to my promise. This weekend itself counts as a promise kept as Emily’s taken off to stay with her sister. Thanks to low-cost airlines and reward points, we scored the otherwise $120 flight for free. I’m so glad that she gets to go.
