Now that Drew and I have more time on our hands and don’t need to be constantly studying, with the added bonus of having a bit more money we have taken on 2 projects. The first one is really just Drew’s project, he has planted a vegetable garden in the back yard. And the second project is a joint effort because today I did some weeding/digging (I’ll explain more in a minute).
Drew’s Veggie Garden
When we moved into this house we noticed that there was a bit of the backyard that looked like it used to be a vegetable garden but it was over grown with weeds and grass. So the other day Drew bought a shovel and dug a section of it up. He mixed in some manure and peat and planted some vegetables. He was advised to start off with already growing vegetables being his first time and all so when you look at the photos don’t think they have grown that quickly! Currently he has romaine lettuce, red sails lettuce, spinach and today he planted a raspberry bush in front of a fence towards the back of the yard. His next step is to plant carrot seeds in little biodegradable starter pots and begin growing them inside then transfer them into the garden. I will take some more photos in a couple of weeks to see how they are doing but here are a couple I took today.
Project Number Two – Landscaping
The path way directly outside our front door was non-existent up until now. There were some tiles that could have been used as stepping stones and at some point it looked as though mulch had been put down around the tiles but the mulch was covered in weeds so it just looked like a mess. There was also landscape ending outlining the path but it was hard to see, I didn’t even realize it was there until Drew told me. So yesterday we dug a little bit up just to see how easy it would be to clear the area, we found this weed blocker lining stuff that was put down under the mulch which made it was really easy to take up all the weeds. Heres a couple of photos of what we did yesterday.
Then today while Drew was at class and Poppy was down for her morning nap I cleared everything so that we could work out what to do next.
Tomorrow we are going to Lowes DIY store to get pea gravel to lay down. I’ll take some photos of that, should be interesting!
