We’re Now Wycliffe Members

We are very excited to announce that mid last week we received the news that we have been accepted as members of Wycliffe Bible Translators. This is something we’ve been looking forward to for a very long time. Even while I was still in high school I wanted to work as a linguist for Wycliffe Bible Translators making the Scriptures available to people in their heart language for the first time. Most 21st century English speakers have no idea what’s it’s like not to have God’s word available to us in the language we best understand. But for so many others instead of getting a clear, colorful picture of God’s word when it’s read aloud, get a blurry, dim black and white picture that is almost incomprehensible if comprehensible at all.

Our ultimate assignment will be in Cameroon in west Africa. We are still about two years out from settling down there as we still have orientation and some training remaining. Emily will be able to work part-time as a nurse while I will work as a linguist alongside African translators, helping them to accurately and appropriately translate God’s word into their language. In Cameroon alone there are still over 100 languages that still need work done. Facts, figures and statistics about Bible translation are changing all the time as the task advances. But over 100 languages for Cameroon is a very modest estimate and a sure figure to give you a fair idea of the task that remains.

If God has truly spoken–and we believe he has–then we must go. These languages matter because the people who speak them matter.

Emily and I already see how becoming members of Wycliffe will be a giant step of faith as we are learning to trust God more and more. Work with Wycliffe is volunteer. We will be dependent upon churches and individuals who choose to partner with us prayerfully and financially. So often the task of Bible translation goes unnoticed in churches and in Christian’s lives. We hope to be the people who connect you to the massive endeavor now underway by Wycliffe to see the Bible translated for the glory of God.

Congratulations and welcome to Wycliffe! My wife, Dallas, and I are so glad God is leading you to service in Bible translation. Doubly so at the thought he is leading you to Cameroon where we spent 8 years of our lives! Looking forward to seeing you in Orlando.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Bob! We’re excited but also nervous as we are learning to step out in faith more and more. Can’t wait to come to Orlando for orientation. See you there!
