Poppy’s 18/19 Month Update

Poppy turned 18 months old on Christmas day 2010 and as we were extremely busy having a wonderful time visiting with friends and family I didn’t get around to doing an 18 month update for her.  So here I am writing down some of her particulars for 18-19 months.

At her 18 month check up on January 3rd she weighed 22lbs and 10oz and is 32 1/4 inches tall.

Poppy is a grazer, she doesn’t eat alot at breakfast, lunch or dinner but instead she will eat little snacks all throughout the day.  Her newest food right now that she seems to enjoyis popcorn, she also really loves gummy fruit snacks that she gets as a treat.

As you know already Poppy’s latest love of her life is Kipper the dog.  I have to admit he is a very lovable little dog and I can’t resist hearing Poppy laugh out loud to the specific parts she finds funny, its so cute.  She is transfixed when I put him on and its by far her favorite, I’ve tried her with Veggietales and a cartoon called Word World but she’ll get disinterested quickly and bring me the remote control, she calls him “Bipper”.

Let me think…what else does Poppy do now.

  • Waves and says goodbye to anyone and everyone.
  • When shes finished with her packet of fruit snacks she runs to the kitchen bin and throws the packet away, its so adorable when you hear her little feet scampering and then you hear the bin lid open and close!!
  • She lets me put her mini packback on her and she’ll walk around wearing it (when she was first given it she couldn’t stand having it put on and would cry until it was taken off).
  • Still carries around, feeds and puts her baby dolls to bed alot.
  • Poppy’s favorite person in the world apart from Kipper is her Uncle Simon.
  • Shes fully drinking out of a big girl cup on her own now.
  • Takes one huge nap from roughly 11ish-3pm
  • She wears size 4-5 shoes.
  • Shes in 18 month clothes.
  • She answers yes and no to questions but she doesn’t always answer correctly.
  • She can climb up and down the stairs on her own (they are very shallow stairs).
  • She sleeps from 8pm-8am.
  • Here are a few words she says:  Apple, baby, book, car, cookie, doggy, Jesus, juice, keys, peetsba (pizza), socks, shoes, tea, oh gosh, oh dear, help,  pwease, dank doo (thank you), quick, hide, night night, see ya, bye bye, ouch, wee wee, poopy, yes, no.

Poppy’s biggest achievement in the last few days has been to wee wee in her potty.  The nurse practitioner who sees Poppy for her well baby check ups said that 18 months was probably the earliest age in her opinion to start potty training.   Poppy HATES getting her diaper changed, she fusses and screams and squirms and its this big ordeal every time, so I thought that maybe she would enjoy being a big girl and sitting on the potty.  We weren’t really sure where to start so I thought we would just start from the very beginning and buy her a potty and introduce it to her.  Well it wasn’t until a few days ago that after she had a dirty diaper and I had cleaned her up, I asked her if she needed to do a wee wee on her potty.  I sat her on it and she sat very still for a little while.  At first I was just impressed that she was sitting so nicely being a good girl (she is on the move constantly).  Then I thought I would try and turn the tap on to see if the sound of running water would induce anything.  Lo and behold it did!  I looked down and there was a little wee wee!!!  Yay.  I’m thankful that at least she now knows what to do when sitting on the potty.  Most times that we sit her on it she will do a little something but we are far from her telling us before hand that she needs to go.  I’m proud of her first step.

Now for some recent photos taken on 1/23/11
