I started this post yesterday but funnily enough I didn’t have time to finish it and post it. Gone are the days when I sit around with spare time to take photos and blog about them. One day I will get around to writing my labor story but for now I shall just write about the past 2 weeks.
So Henry was born on Friday September 2nd around 3pm. That evening Grandad, Aunty Hannah and Poppy came to visit (Drew picked them up and Granny was already at the hospital). We stayed at the hospital for 2 nights. The first night Aunty Hannah stayed with me and the second night Drew stayed. The hospital (Medical City) was fabulous, we had a great experience and all the nurses were lovely. As nice as it was though we were still eager to leave asap.
Sunday mid afternoon we arrived home, banners were hung and everyone was excited to see baby Henry again.
Thankfully this happened to be labor day weekend so we had Monday off from classes to work on settling in. Henry had a good night and so far seems to be a good baby, just waking to eat and have his diaper changed.
Monday was just more hanging out and catching up on sleep.
Tuesday was BACK TO SCHOOL! The classes themselves weren’t so bad because they were just an hour at a time, it was the 8am start time for Phonetics that was the tough part. Getting Henry fed, me showered and dressed, Poppy ready for pre- school and everyone out the door before 8am was a killer. Gotta say here that we couldn’t have done it without my parents and sister being here to help.
Walking in to my classes without a baby bump was amusing. Yep I had a baby over the weekend!
From then on the days were much the same, school, homework, sleep, school, homework, sleep. This may sound pretty straight forward but in actual fact it was pretty much chaos.
The first week we made it through without any drama but the second week was a bit of a nightmare. It seemed like there was something due to be handed in every single day so it was a case of taking one day at a time and prioritizing what was due for the next day and just getting it done. I gotta admit I didn’t even study for my phonetics final.
Looking back over the past 2 weeks it has been hard but Drew and I always remind ourselves that Poppy was born during the summer before our final semesters at Nursing School and Seminary and THAT was a crazy time! God sustained us then and he is doing the same for us again – ever faithful.
Henry is a wonderful baby and has just fitted right in. Poppy is as in love with him as we are and is always asking “I see baby Henry?”, “I hold him?”. I’m truly thankful that she has taken to him so well.
Yesterday I took Henry to his 2 week check up. He did very well. He now weighs 7.14 (birth weight was 7.11)
