Translation is never as simple as matching up word for word.

Romans 10:4 appears as follows in the Greek New Testament (Nestle-Aland 28th edition):

τέλος γὰρ νόμου Χριστὸς εἰς δικαιοσύνην παντὶ τῷ πιστεύοντι.

In English, the Christian Standard Bible gives us:

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes, …

And the New International Version, slightly longer, reads:

Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Then biblical scholar Frederick Dale Bruner translates as follows in his Short Commentary on Romans:

But you see, Christ himself is the end of the Law [the end in the sense that he is himself both the Law’s fulfillment and its purpose], so that, precisely as that Law’s fulfillment and purpose, there could be a righteousness accessible now to every single person out there in the whole wide world—to every person who is simply putting one’s trust in him for a right relationship with God.
